The Lekki Deep Seaport, Nigeria’s premier deep-water port, has marked a significant milestone by processing 222,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units (TEUs) during the first half of 2025.

This impressive achievement underscores the port’s growing importance as a major logistics hub in West Africa.According to Daniel Odibe, Deputy Chief Operations Officer of the port, the facility is on track to meet its annual projection of 500,000 TEUs.

 This performance reflects the port’s strong operational momentum and the increasing confidence of global carriers and trade partners in its capabilities.

Since commencing operations in 2023, the Lekki Deep Seaport has demonstrated remarkable growth. In its inaugural year, the port handled 58,000 TEUs, a figure that jumped significantly to 287,000 TEUs in 2024, representing a 394.8% increase.

This substantial growth is a testament to the port’s investments in modern infrastructure and state-of-the-art cargo handling equipment.The port’s design capacity is 1.2 million TEUs annually in the first phase, with plans to expand to 2.5 million TEUs upon completion of the second phase.

 Its congestion-free operations and cutting-edge facilities have made it an attractive destination for global carriers, thereby boosting Nigeria’s trade ambitions.The success of the Lekki Deep Seaport can be attributed to its investment in up-to-date cargo handling equipment, including advanced ship-to-shore cranes and other specialized gear.
