Lagos Nigeria – May 11, 2025 – The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has categorically denied claims that it has embarked on a concession of its operations. The Agency attributes these claims to external and internal elements seeking to benefit from the current system.

NIMASA has instead implemented a digital transformation initiative, introducing the Maritime Enhanced Monitoring System (MEMS) to enhance its regulatory capacity, increase revenue, and ensure transparency. MEMS provides real-time visibility into vessel movements, automated alerts, and smart invoicing.

The Agency highlights key benefits of MEMS, including:

1. Digital traceability in maritime operations
2. Real-time monitoring of vessel movements
3. Automated invoicing and revenue generation
4. Enhanced environmental safety and pollution control

NIMASA emphasizes that past revenue shortfalls resulted from outdated manual processes and insufficient digital enforcement mechanisms. The current reforms aim to overcome these limitations, ensuring transparency, efficiency, and accountability.
