As part of activities marking the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary, the Nigerian Navy Secondary School Borokiri on Monday, 25 May 2026, carried out a joint community outreach programme at Enitonna High School, Borokiri, Port Harcourt, focused on education support and health awareness.

The outreach combined academic assistance, health sensitisation and mentorship sessions aimed at promoting discipline, personal hygiene, preventive healthcare and responsible citizenship among young learners.

Educational materials were distributed to participants, while naval medical personnel and educators engaged them on healthy living practices and provided guidance on career and academic development.

Speaking during the programme, the Commandant of Nigerian Navy Secondary School Borokiri, Navy Captain Edna Omezurike, said the initiative reflects the Navy’s commitment to making its anniversary celebration impactful within host communities.

She noted that the outreach demonstrates the Nigerian Navy’s investment in youth development through education and social engagement, while appreciating the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. Abbas, for his support.

Omezurike also commended the Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Naval Command for providing strategic guidance that ensured the success of the programme.

Also speaking, the Commander of Nigerian Navy Hospital Borokiri, Navy Captain Elendu, said the health education component was designed to build awareness on preventive care and hygiene practices among school children.

He explained that early health education remains essential to improving long-term wellbeing and reducing preventable health challenges.

The officers reiterated that the Nigerian Navy continues to expand its civil-military cooperation efforts through education, healthcare and youth-focused interventions beyond its core maritime responsibilities.

They added that the programme strengthened relations between the Navy and the host community while promoting trust and social responsibility.

The Nigerian Navy Secondary School Borokiri and Nigerian Navy Hospital Borokiri reaffirmed their commitment to sustaining similar initiatives aimed at supporting education, healthcare and youth empowerment in line with the Navy’s developmental vision.
